Problem :
Field Notes had great writing but no visual voice — every issue looked different, and nothing tied the print magazine to its growing online presence.
Solution :
We built a flexible identity led by a confident serif, a textured off-white palette, and a simple grid that scales from a magazine spread to a phone screen without losing its character.
Challenge :
The system had to feel handmade yet repeatable across volunteers and freelancers. We delivered a tight kit of rules, templates, and examples that anyone on the team could apply.
Summary :
The new identity gave Field Notes a recognizable signature across print and web, and subscriptions grew as the brand finally looked as considered as the stories it told.
