Clarity is not decoration you add at the end. It is the result of decisions made early about hierarchy, spacing, and naming. When a team agrees on those rules once, every screen after it gets quietly better.
A design system is really a shared vocabulary. Tokens describe color and type, components describe behavior, and patterns describe intent. The value is not the library itself but the conversations it removes.
Start small. One spacing scale, one type ramp, and a handful of components will carry a product further than a sprawling kit that nobody maintains. Constraints are what make a system feel coherent.
The goal is an interface that explains itself. When users never have to stop and decode the screen, the system is doing its job, and so are you.
